A2 or A4: which grade to choose

A2 stainless steel fasteners suit most industrial applications in dry or mildly aggressive environments, where extreme corrosion resistance isn't required.
A4 stainless steel, and A4-80 in particular, offers superior corrosion resistance, making it the right choice for marine, brackish or heavily exposed environments.
The "80" designation also indicates higher mechanical strength than standard grades, useful when corrosion resistance needs to be paired with a higher tensile strength.
